Union City’s baseball program just completed a strong 2025 season under Coach Jeff Wendel. After a 9-11 regular season, the team captured both the Sectional and Regional championships, before falling in the semis at the Semistate level.
Wendel — a veteran coach from Ohio — previously served as assistant under Jason Dowler when Union City won their first-ever regional title in 2024.
What stands out is his focus on mental performance. Wendel credits his certification through mental performance coach Brian Cain for shaping his commitment to “the mental game.” He explains: “We get their mind right, everything else follows.”
He acknowledges that the team didn’t embrace this mindset immediately. Over the season, players gradually shifted from looking out for themselves to adopting a collective mentality: “loving each other and going to battle for each other and not themselves.”
It’s a change built on trust, discipline, and belief — a mental foundation designed to support performance under pressure.
